Bought to us by Mad Head Games

They are my favourite devs although I think the 3rd instalment of NeverTales was lacking in something but I can’t put my finger on it, however Dark Realms: Queen of Flames was exceptional.

I also must admit that I didn’t take any notes on the Beta Test - so it’s from memory that I am writing this revue. Firstly to all those gamers who loathe/hate/dislike pinks and purples - they are not in this game and I personally don’t mind what colour they are in.

The game opens with a woman who is building a replica of a ship that sunk with her parents on board 20 years ago. She explains that she is doing this because she wants to put it in the sea and watch it disappear in the hope it will take some of her tragedy away.

Suddenly a weather phenomenon appears in the sky and the ship is heading towards her home town. She is at a loss to understand what is going on until a she spots a photo of her and her father on her 6th birthday who is giving her a necklace. This is actually an amulet which directs her to follow a path to work out how this has happened and/or how to solve it.

There is a mermaid who is definitely not a nice one, actually she’s quite scary, who wakes a creature to go on land to sort things out. I must say that the Mad Head devs certainly know how to produce a creature that made me jump both times, even though I knew what it looked like the first time around.

As usual the demo finished on a cliff hanger and I can’t wait for the game to be released.

The graphics are excellent, the lip sync too and the music appropriate.

I can’t comment on collectables or morphing objects as from memory Mad Head don’t usually put them in for a Beta test game. If I am wrong, please let me know.
