Godparents fit for a princess! On Sunday, July 5, the day of Princess Charlotte's christening, Kensington Palace announced the five lucky people who will serve as godparents to the fourth in line to the throne.
There wasn't a monarch, or a knight or a dowager in sight.
Once such people provided infant Windsors with their spiritual guidance. Now, William and Kate have turned to their close friends and their close family to fulfill this role.

Sophie Carter, James Meade, Adam Middleton, the Honorary Laura Fellowes, and Thomas van Straubenzee have all been listed as Charlotte's official godparents by her parents Kate Middleton and Prince William.
The list doesn't include any members of the royal family and only has five godparents as opposed to her brother Prince George's seven.
Carter is a longtime friend of the Middleton family and Kate. She's even holidayed on Mustique with them. Adam is Kate's cousin.
Straubenzee is the best friend of Prince William and even helped Prince Harry with his best man speech in the couple's 2011 wedding. Fellowes is Princess Diana's niece.

Lady Laura Fellowes ---- Will's cousin, Diana's niece - daughter of Diana's sister Lady Jane Fellowes and her husband Baron Robert Fellowes, who was one of the queen's private secretaries during the time Diana was married to Prince Charles, including during the stormy period preceding their divorce.
Laura, who will be 35 later this month and lives in Norfolk with her husband and two children, is a novelist who writes under the name Mave Fellowes. She grew up with slightly younger Will, and the two famously served as bridesmaid and naughty page boy misbehaving at his uncle Prince Andrew's marriage to Sarah Ferguson in 1986. The young Prince was yawning and stuck out his tongue during the ceremony.
Adam Middleton ---- Duchess Kate's first cousin, son of her uncle Richard Middleton. Last year, Kate attended his wedding to interior designer Rebecca Poynton at London's posh Dorchester Hotel. The Daily Mail reported he works advising senior business executives.
As a loyal Middleton member, he attended the duchess’ 2013 birthday party at Cirque du Soleil and Pippa’s launch party for her 2012 book, Celebrate.
Thomas van Staubenzee ---- friend of William's since prep school. Known as "Van", he accompanied William on his first official overseas tour to New Zealand.
He and fellow godparent James Meade were ushers at Will and Kate’s 2011 wedding. Fun fact: van Straubenzee’s wife is a castle heiress and one of their family homes was featured in a Harry Potter film.
He and his family have been close friends to Will and Harry since prep school. His brother, Henry was killed in car crash in 2002, and the princes are patrons of his memorial fund.
Thomas, who is in international real estate, married a duke's daughter in 2013, when Kate was still pregnant, and Will and Harry were ushers.
In 2011, Thomas made headlines when he was mugged at knife point in London while talking to Harry on the phone, prompting Harry to rush off to find him.
James Meade ----- friend of William's since Eton and the son of Olympic gold medal-winning equestrian Richard Meade.
He went to Eton with Will and is also a longtime friend to Kate. When he married an earl's daughter in 2013, Kate couldn't attend because Prince George was still an infant, but Will was an usher and both Harry and Pippa were there.
Nicknamed “Badger,” he lives near Anmer Hall with his wife.
