Beyond: Light Advent
Based on both the Beta and SE demo (fell asleep during the CE demo -- oops)
I have to say this game has made a HUGE improvement since I played the beta.
Your character seems to work at a Space Station. Her co-hort is a nerdy, squirrelly looking young man who needs to look more like he's in SHOCK that the world could be ending rather than ............... hmmm ....... pass me another slice of cake or something. YIKES! And his voice????? Please. Does it have to be so squeaky????
First things first. When you enter your profile ...... check out the license plate on the red convertible on the game page. SURPRISE!!!! Hmmmm . That's actually one of the most exciting things in this game. Ho-Hum.
Graphics are pretty well done. Voice overs were mediocre. Please fix your character's assistant's voice ..... please! The music, IMO, should have been more "Twilight Zone". But, that's just me.
4 difficulty modes: Stargazer, Astronomer, Cosmologist and Physicists (custom).
You are equipped with a journal which puzzled me a lot because the notes were written along with your tasks/objectives instead of dividing them into separate areas of the journal.
You are also equipped with a walkie talkie so you can speak with all the characters you meet during game play. And a memory bracelet that attaches itself to your arm. What fun!!!!
There were several areas where I came across dead silence. No voice over, no music, no sound fx. There I am, crouching among the trees and .............. nothing.
I did have a "WHOA" moment when the "space being" was able to put his hand right into your inventory! Seriously????
HOGs (hidden object games) were list or silhouette. Not very interactive. Mini Games were fun and unique. Yes, I used the skip button once. Bad mommy .... no donut (it's a Simpson thing - lol).
CE Bling consists of the usual fare including:
* collect 44 rocket ships
* collect Morphing Objects in the HOGS only.
At the end of the demo, your character sees herself in the reflection of an elevator door and exclaims that she's "in another body .... again". 'whoa'!
I don't recall her being in another body during the demo. So, I did a little investigating. The survey for the beta indicated this was a sequel. "Again?" "Sequel?" . THIS I had to look into.
Just as I thought. Yes, this IS a sequel. But, before you go off trying to find the first game ....... it came out in 2013 as a Playstation 3 game only. So, what have we missed?????
It is a great standalone game from what I could tell from the demos. CE worthy, IMO, because it has bonus game and collectibles and morphing objects. Who could resist?
I think it would be a better game for intermediates and experts as opposed to beginners.
I doubt very seriously if I will purchase either the CE or SE. It just didn't hold my interest. For those who love the sci-fi genre of games ..............
Enjoy!
Overall Impression: Not my cup of tea but I think hard core sci-fi lovers will thoroughly enjoy it.
